Finding the zone and embracing the mess
My art practice actually starts out in the dirt. Growing my own raised beds of Zinnias and Black Eyed Susans completely shifts how I see color and texture. I love taking that wild, organic energy from the garden and translating it directly onto the canvas.
I try to approach my work with the exact same fearless energy kids have when they are creating. The best parts of my work almost always come from happy accidents, scattered collage scraps, and not taking myself too seriously.
I am not just trying to paint a pretty scene for you to look at. I want to create an atmosphere you can actually feel.
When you stand in front of one of my pieces, I hope it brings back a specific memory or that nostalgic feeling of being completely immersed in the outdoors.
I love sharing the unpolished reality of my daily art practice too. Catch up with me on Instagram at @bethbaileystudio to see my latest projects, my collage scraps, and whatever fresh flowers I just brought inside.
